Who is Sia Furler and A Round-Up of Sia Quotes

There is no longer any question of a dispute that Sia Furler, until recently one of Australia's least appreciated musical artists, can be a bit strange. Look no further than the music videos produced for her songs, and you will find that this singer has developed a style which is, to put it mildly, "very unique".

Sia is best known for her work with the electronic band which rejoices in the name of "Zero 7". That is despite the fact that she stopped working on songs with the community in order to put all her efforts into her solo career. Her stylish hot property, 'Breathe Me' has been bought up by many syndicated television shows. Not only that, her musical creations are now extending into films and ads for use in their soundtracks, and some of her music.

It maybe, if not quite yet, will very soon be that her name will become a regular household-wide feature.

What the press say

"Now Sia has unveiled a few tracks from her upcoming CD 'We Are Born' which have, so far, met with a very positive response. The album will be released on CD and for download on June 7 to coincide with the end of her global tour taking place this spring."

Most observers and fans say:

"She has gone from strength to strength recording new material and working with fellow singers such as Christina Aguilera, with whom she has penned several songs to be released on Aguilera's upcoming album this summer."
"However, it is precisely Sia's sense of peculiar style, coupled with her catchy pop tunes, thoughtful lyrics and soulful slow songs that makes her so appealing to so many listeners. From the melancholic piano melodies of well known song 'Breathe Me' to the spunkier sounds of her latest single 'Clap Your Hands', there's no mistaking that Sia has a full range of styles at her fingertips and isn't afraid to experiment."

What They are Saying About Sia Furler

Her Face-shrouding performance ritual:

I first noticed Sia's relatively new face-shrouding performance ritual when she was the musical guest on a recent episode of SNL. During "Elastic Heart," the singer faced off to the side, a tulle shield obscuring most of her face underneath her signature blonde wig. Sia faced the audience for "Chandelier," but she still wore the same black visor, and a mime performed next to her to draw attention away from the singer.

About that weird platinum blonde bob hairdo:

... Sia, 39, who had settled into writing songs for other pop artists in recent years – with a great deal of success. She wrote anthemic hits for Rihanna (Diamonds), Flo Rida (Wild Ones) and David Guetta (Titanium). She was also contracted by a who's who of stars including: Beyonce, Katy Perry, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, Jessie J, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Rita Ora and Kylie Minogue.
She also turned her platinum blonde bob hairdo into a sort of symbol – those who performed in her videos have worn it. Since the Grammy awards, where she received five nominations, she has taken to wearing an oversized blonde wig which also hides her face. She wore the wig while performing Wolves with Kanye West on Saturday Night Live...

Her inclusion in the top ten of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour Power List

Taylor Swift may have taken on Apple and Spotify and Katy Perry may have earned the most money out of any female pop star last year, but the inclusion of Sia Furler in the top ten of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour Power List recognises her more subtle but none the less radical form of achievement. In an industry that considers women's bodies as part of the product, the 39-year-old Australian singer-songwriter took a cool stance when she opted in 2014 to hide her face behind a choppy blonde wig and remain physically anonymous when she performed, staking her fortune on the power of her songs alone.
Over recent years, Furler has taken a similarly strategic approach to her art, standing back and analysing the trends of the moment to isolate the components of a hit song. Her 2014 album, 1000 Forms of Fear, saw her showcase the formula she’d developed working for others. She’d figured out that you need to take one evocative word – “umbrella,” say, or “firework” – and spin it into a three-minute metaphor, with some added musical whoosh, designed to take the singer on a journey from “victim to victor”. It was a personal narrative with which she identified – having struggled with addiction and mental illness for many years following the death of her boyfriend the late Nineties.

How her audience has grown exponentially and the backwards-facing interview

Sometimes, Sia Furler writes songs in gibberish. During an August appearance on E!’s since-defunct late-night show Chelsea Lately, the fame-phobic singer-songwriter offered a peek into her creative process: scatting nonsense noises like “squidly-doo” and “blah-blah-blahhh,” wiggling her head, shaking the ends of her bright-blonde bob, and eventually connecting the words “bye-ayy-ayy” to “diamonds in the sky,” all while turned away from the camera.
The studio audience, who could only see the back of Sia’s head, cheered and chortled at her babbling. “If [the song] starts with just ‘scoobidy-boo,’ that means it’s a hit,” Sia explained, still chuckling, clawing the air as if to grab an invisible, floating turn of phrase. Naturally, the talk show’s host was curious as to how Sia crafted “Diamonds,” a mammoth 2012 single she wrote for Rihanna’s seventh LP, Unapologetic. Since then, the prolific Australian’s audience has grown exponentially, resulting in a backwards-facing (and slightly discomfiting) interview about songwriting.

Successful Collaborations and that trademark-severe sunshine-blond bob wig

In the case of the self-protective 39-year-old Australian singer-songwriter Sia, who hasn't shown her face in a magazine or during a live performance since 2013, what remains in the public consciousness is a kind of trademark severe sunshine-blond bob wig—and a sensational voice. For almost two decades, Sia (born Sia Furler) has had success (and performed in public) in her native Down Under, as well as in the U.S. and Europe—recording with the band Zero 7 and, from 1997, as a solo artist. This recent move toward privacy preceded the enormous, and perhaps not entirely unrelated, smash hit of her 2014 album 1000 Forms of Fear. Continuing her past work of laying emotional vocals over electro-pop beats, Fear is loaded with Sia's signature catchy, dancey anthems and animated by her deep, playful, and powerful mezzo-soprano. Working with actors, including Kristen Wiig, who performed "Chandelier" as a Sia-esque character in said wig at the Grammys this past February, as well as Shia LaBeouf and the young dancer Maddie Ziegler, who starred in the music videos for both "Elastic Heart" and "Chandelier," Sia has created a visual accompaniment for her music on stage and screen that confronts our utter devotion to the avatar-industrial complex. Is it a gimmick? "For sure," she says, but it is also an attempt to retain some sense of normalcy in her life. Along with this new burst of popularity have come the offers, and Sia has recently collaborated with Kanye West (on "Wolves") and contributed a song to the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

Smash-hit "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart" for humble girl from Adelaide

By now, everyone knows who Sia Furler is. Her smash-hit "Chandelier" threw her onto the music map last year and she's been steadily topping charts around the globe since then. Her latest song, "Elastic Heart," has another film clip that's taken on a life of its own, with Maddie Ziegler and Shia LeBeouf holding starring roles.
For the uninitiated, you might be surprised to learn that Sia's been working in the industry for over 20 years. That she's only becoming mega-star famous now is probably amusing to her long-standing fans, but we're here to give you a crash course on this humble girl from Adelaide, who has just stolen the show at the 2015 Grammys. Keep reading for 33 facts you may not have known about Sia.

Childhood in Adelaide Australia

Childhood: Sia was born in Adelaide, Australia to Phil Colson and Loene Furler and was part of the acid jazz group Crisp. The band released two albums, entitled Word and the Deal and Delirium. Following her work with the band, Sia released her debut solo album, entitled OnlySee. However, it was not until she moved to the UK that she gained any notable recognition for her talents.
Career: Sia signed to the DancePool record label, a subsidiary of Sony, in 2000. Her major label debut album was named Healing Is Difficult. A number of underground club hits came from the album, such as 'Drink To Get Drunk' and 'Little Man'. 'Little Man' was remixed by the UK garage artist Wookie and was a popular club hit. She also sampled Prokofiev's 'Dance of the Knights' for the song 'Taken For Granted'. Following a dispute with her label, Sia left them and signed a new deal with Go! Beat Records, a subsidiary label of UMG.

Sia - The Brains Behind the Hits!

Sia, 39, is one of the biggest musical geniuses in Hollywood. The brains behind many hits from Beyonce, Rihanna, and Britney Spears, Sia is a seasoned pro in the industry. She’s modest, too, as one thing is very apparent — the Australian singer/songwriter hates showing her face, even when she’s nominated for huge awards like a Grammy. Here’s why she hides her visage.
The “Elastic Heart” singer wrote an op-ed for Billboard in October 2013 called “My Anti-Fame Manifesto (By Sia Furler)” where she addressed why she hides her face from the spotlight. Yes, it has everything to do with hating fame.

Almost 20 years of very few live interviews means her art - nothing else - won the day

For nearly twenty years, Sia Furler has been treating music lovers to some of the finest vocals ever, whilst remaining one of the most notoriously reclusive artists in the entire history of music. Even on the heels of her chart topping single “Chandelier,” and her high profile collaborations with artists like Eminem and Kanye West, she continues to rarely give interviews, and hasn’t played a public, live set of her own music since 2011. Thankfully for fans, the last week has brought news that she is considering ending her self-imposed live hiatus, and also has her next album ready for release.
Though she usually takes two or three years between albums, the singer revealed that 2014’s “1000 Forms Of Fear” was basically only done to get out of her publishing contract. Stating that she “didn’t want to get famous,” she also apparently kept her favorite songs OFF that album, and is planning to release them this year on a record likely called "This Is Acting".

Who is Banksy?

"Banksy" is undoubtedly the UK's most infamous graffiti artist. Even after so many years of fame, and a host of exhibitions around the world, he does not make many public appearances, and few people actually know him for who he is. This level of mystery has meant that the hype surrounding his art has just kept growing.

Maybe, Banksy's most iconic and often referred to work is in Palestine and Israel. We refer to the famous, so-called "Flower Thrower" graffiti which shows a young man with his face masked, preparing to throw. We would expect to see him throwing a rock or a flaming bottle but it is neither. It is a bouquet of flowers.

Another famous example is on the wall of the West Bank barrier, there he painted a ladder with a boy playing at its foot. It is called "Escapism." It was as long ago as 2005, when Banksy sprayed a total of nine graffiti-paintings in the locality. Another well-known example in this set, shows a little girl patting down an Israeli soldier, searching him for weapons.

Watch our Banksy video, made specially for this article:

This Graffiti artist was born in England, and is possibly the greatest name in the graffiti circle. He is popular for his depiction of dark humour via graffiti. Look upon his works as great examples of political and social commentary in the context of the time. He was one of the first to popularize a stenciling method for the production of his art, this is what enables him to create his images quickly and easily, and usually un-noticed.

When you look deeply at his images, they most of the time convey a satirical message. An idea is presented to the viewer in a unique manner. That is a stamp of great art. But, his work is not loved by all. He has been seen as anti-capitalist and he is certainly in many way anti the established political ideas. Most people find that his graffiti is worth looking at, and that the message is worthy of thought.

Banksy has done filming/ and has produced his own videos. He says that editing the films together is an exhausting process, and has said that he spent a year on one.

Banksy's creations first emerged from the Bristol underground scene. it was an artistic community which evolved from collaborations between local artists and musicians. It is interesting that many people have said that his graffiti style is similar to another artist known as Blek le Rat, who's work with stencils began in Paris, back in 1981. When asked though Banksy has said that his inspiration has been mostly by another graffiti artist known simply as "3D". This person later became a founding member of Massive Attack, an English pop group.

Banksy's stencils include striking and also funny pictures periodically incorporated with slogans. The message is typically against war/ pacifist, anti-capitalist and/ or anti-establishment. Topics commonly consist of mice/ rats, apes, cops, soldiers, kids, as well as the elderly.

At the beginning he just showed up, or at the very least his graffiti did, in Bristol, a city in the UK. His popularity came to him initially by his repainting technique using his hallmark stencil-pattern methods, on very public buildings.

Banksy held an exhibition called Barely Legal, it was billed as a "3 day vandalised warehouse extravaganza" in Los Angeles. The event featured a live "elephant in a room," painted in a pink and gold floral wallpaper pattern, which, according to brochures handed out at the exhibit, was intended to underscore a feeling of concern for worldwide hardship among the poor.

Although the Animal Services Department had issued a license for the elephant, after problems from animal rights lobbyists, the elephant appeared unpainted on the final day. Its proprietors denied all claims of mis-treatment and also stated that the elephant had done "several, lots of films. Banksy likewise made artwork showing Queen Victoria as a lesbian and also satirical items that included fine-art made by Andy Warhol and in addition even Leonardo da Vinci.

Banksy has actually published a "manifesto" on his internet site. The content of the manifesto is credited as the diary access of one Lieutenant Colonel Mervin Willett Gonin, DSO, which is shown in the Imperial War Museum. It describes just how a shipment of lipstick to the Bergen Belsen concentration camp instantly after its freedom at the end of World War II helped the internees reclaim their humankind. However, as of 18 January 2008, Banksy's Manifesto was replaced with Graffiti Heroes No. 03 which described Peter Chappell's graffiti pursuit of the 1970s that worked to campaign for freeing George Davis during his jail time. By 12 August 2009 he was relying on Emo Philips. When h was a youngster he used to hope every evening for a brand-new bicycle. After a while he says he decided God doesn't function through doing this, so he swiped one and hoped for forgiveness.

A handful of Banksy's creations could be seen in the motion picture Children of Men, consisting of a stenciled picture of 2 police officers kissing and also one more stencil of a kid overlooking a store.
Banksy was also accepted to have created the 2010 the Simpsons episode "MoneyBart," depicting individuals operating in awful problems and utilizing endangered or mythical pets making both the episodes cel by cel and the merchandise connected with the program. His name appears numerous times throughout the episode's opening credits listing, as spray repainted on diverse wall surfaces and signs. Fox sanitised parts of the episodes positions "for preference", and to make it less grim.

In January 2011, Banksy published the original storyboard on its site. According to Banksy, the storyboard "led to delays, disagreements over broadcast criteria and an endangered walk out by the computer animation division." Executive director Al Jean amusingly claimed, "This is what you end up with when you contract out".

Banksy has self-published several books that contain pictures of his art in various nations as well as a few of his canvas job and also events, accompanied by his very own works.

Banksy's workmanship has actually taken him both around the UK, and also abroad. However, several of his most "popular" pieces remain in London and also there are various other works associated with him considerably further afield.

Banksy canvas prints can be bought from a wide variety of sources nowadays as well as it is now feasible to include a touch of the Banksy witticism into your individual living spaces. Improvements in the canvas printing process (the dye sublimation process is taken into consideration above the inkjet or "giclee" technique of printing), indicates that you could now get yourself a high quality Banksy print for an extremely cost effective rate.

In May 2011 Banksy released a lithographic print which revealed a smoking petrol bomb contained in a 'Tesco Value' container. This followed a campaign by citizens versus the opening of a Tesco Express supermarket in Banksy's assumed residence city of Bristol. Violent clashes had taken place between authorities and also demonstrators in the Stokes Croft area.

Banksy generated the poster ostensibly to generate money for protest groups in the Stokes Croft area and also to make available some cash for the legal support of those arrested during the riots. The posters were marketed specifically at the Bristol Anarchists Bookfair in Stokes Croft.

In May 2009, Banksy parted business ways with broker Steve Lazarides and announced that Pest Control, the handling service who act on his part, would be the only point of sale for new art.

On 13 June 2009, a Banksy vs Bristol Museum show opened up at Bristol City Museum as well as in the Art Gallery. For the first time it was featuring more than 100 art works, including animatronics. it Was his biggest exhibition at the time, and included a reported 78 brand-new works.

Response to the show was positive, with over 8,500 site visitors to the show on the initial weekend. Over the course of the twelve weeks, the exhibition was visited over 300,000 times. In September 2009, a Banksy work parodying the Royal Family was partially damaged by Hackney Council after they served an enforcement notification for graffiti extraction to the former address of the property owner. The mural had actually been appointed for the 2003 Blur single "Crazy Beat" and also the property owner, who had permitted it to be painted, was reported to have been in shock when she saw it was being painted-over.

The registrant of Banksy's internet site is Steve Lazarides, a photographer. Lazarides is Banksy's representative. During a visit he sprayed a couple of artworks consisting of a kitten on a property damaged by Israel's actions ("I wanted to highlight the destruction in Gaza by publishing pictures on my website"). However, most online people who see this just consider them to be images of kitties.

If you are a new Banksy devotee and are seriously regarding purchasing some of his original art, be ready to browse everywhere to find it, as well as fork out a little fortune to buy it. Each one of his prints are unique number stamped as well as authorized, and also some have stamps together with other marks to make sure that you will recognize that they are authentic. Despite their scarcity, art collectors around the globe are rushing to obtain these outstanding items, specifically those that have been produced a while ago, like "Morons" (2007) and "Happy Chopper".

It is said by most people to be self-evident that Banksy is from the Bristol area. But, according to the Daily Mail, he is from an area called Yate which is a town simply a few miles north of Bristol. The area grew fast during the housing boom in the 80's and 90's at the same time as rapid growth of new housing in Bristol. So, the two have now efficiently "combined" as a part of Bristol. The Daily Mail has furthermore declared that Banksy's actual name is Robin Banks. That's a big claim. How can doubt be eliminated that this "real" name is also one composed for the event!

Whatever he is or stands for, Banksy remains the "scarlet pimpernel" of the contemporary art globe. He is well experienced in leaving trails which are fake and also propagates red herrings on purpose. Apparently, even his own agent has actually declared that he is not entirely specific of the true identification of his client.

Many people who like his work say that Banksy is among the few hopes that this world has actually got left. Following his footprints, or a minimum of aiming to make important modifications to all our futures, and for the future of young folks is something that we really have to absorb consideration of. Let's hope his influence will help the world change for the better before is too late and this world goes down the drainpipe.
